My parents live in Los Feliz and they have this LiftMaster gate opener on their driveway gate. Been there for years, never really had issues. Then one day it starts making this loud clicking noise every time the gate moves. Not a quiet little tick either, I'm talking loud enough that my mom thought something was breaking. I called around about gate opener repair and Jonah from Novak came out. He popped open the motor housing right there in front of us and pointed at the internal gear. Thing was completely chewed up. Like you could see the teeth were worn smooth in spots. He explained that it's a pretty common failure point on older LiftMasters, which made my parents feel a bit better about it. Had the replacement gear with him, swapped it out, and the gate was back to running quiet. My dad stood there watching the whole thing and even he said it was a good job. The entry system at our place in Silver Lake was honestly embarrassing. Old, outdated, and it would disconnect in the middle of conversations with visitors. Someone would buzz up, you'd start talking, and then just... silence. They'd have to buzz again. Sometimes twice. We finally decided to stop dealing with it and get proper intercom installation done. Ugen from Novak came out to take a look. He suggested an Akuvox system, which I'd never heard of before. But he explained why it made sense for our setup. The big thing was it could work with the existing wiring we already had in the walls, so no tearing stuff open. Plus it came with video which our old system definitely did not have. The actual installation was clean. Like really clean. No messy wires hanging out, the panel looked like it was always there. Whole thing was done in one visit. We've been using it for a while now and haven't had a single disconnect. Should have done this way sooner. ~ jerry t

So the DoorBird intercom in our building in West Hollywood just stopped producing any sound one day. Like completely silent. People were pressing the buzzer downstairs and we had no idea anyone was even there. Found out later a few residents missed deliveries because of it. Not great. We called around for intercom repair and ended up going with Novak. Kevin showed up and got right into it. Pulled the panel off the wall, started checking the wiring connections behind it. Found the problem pretty fast actually. The speaker element inside the unit was completely dead. Not a wiring issue, not a software thing, the physical speaker just gave out. He had a replacement with him and swapped it in. But what I really appreciated was that he didn't just test it once and leave. Ok so this had been driving me crazy for like a week. The sliding gate would start closing and then just... stop. Right in the middle. Every. Single. Time. Try again, same thing. I'm sitting in my car at 7am trying to get to work and the gate is just sitting there half open. Not ideal. Anyway I looked up automatic gate repair in Hollywood and found Novak Doors And Gates Hollywood. Avi came out the next day which was great because I honestly expected to wait longer. He didn't rush through it either. Checked the opener, went through all the sensors one by one. Turns out one of the safety sensors was basically dying. It would work for a bit then cut out randomly, which is why the gate kept stopping mid-close. He replaced the sensor right there, didn't need to order anything or come back. Then he ran the gate like six or seven times while we both just stood there watching it. Closed perfectly every time. That was a few weeks ago and we haven't had a single problem since.
